Stuff ‘n’ Things   3 comments

Well, it’s been a short summer, but a longer time than I’ve had time to call my own.  What with a few short 2 day trips here and there, and projects around the house & yard, and….., well I never would have believed that grandkids could take up so much of my time!!!!!  Aside from the above, I’ve been fishing a bit…, and painting…., and doing a lot of readin’ and relaxin’, but not too much writing, as you’ve probably noted .  Other than being busy a lot, I’ve enjoyed it all.

A color pencil work…..

….and a watercolor

Well, the clock is pushin’ on toward midnight here and I should probably be

calling it a day before my eyes slam completely shut so………

OK, OK….. goodnight everybody !!!

~~ The Holidays ~~   1 comment

The holidays… !!!!!  What holidays???

I took special note this year about the advent of holidays…, Valentines Day, this one obviously starts somewhere around January 5th as that’s when all the stores are loaded with cards and candy.  Easter, this one obviously starts a week before Valentine’s day.  Mother’s Day, starts on Good Friday.  Father’s Day…, well, that one is rather dubious.  Maybe it doesn’t sell so well as Mother’s Day.  The 4th of July, that one starts two weeks before Father’s Day.  The 4th is also the beginning of “back to school” sales.  Veteran’s Day…, well, that’s another one of those dubious ones.  Thanksgiving…, I think that started about the same time as the beginning of school and its beginning coincided with Halloween.  By late September all Halloween stuff is off the shelf and stores are decorating and stocking for Christmas.  Well, that almost sums it up, but wait…, I forgot New Year’s Eve/Day.  That starts 2 weeks before Christmas Day.

Why do I even care?  I guess I’m just a curmudgeonly old fart that simply can’t buy into the contemporary style of modern marketing.  Let’s face it folks; stores really aren’t concerned that you can do early planning and acquisition of needed things.

They’re just out there trying to grab you more and more often for more and more money.  I can’t wait to hear how much more people spent on holiday gifts this year over last year.

What ever happened to preparing for and celebrating holidays one at a time?  Nowadays a person really can’t be sure what time of year it is by walking into a department store.  Christmas decorations are up by late September.  By New Year’s day spring/summer clothes are on the shelves and racks.

Yeah, I’m ranting…, but it’s one of my favorite rants…, so there !!!  I haven’t become Scrooge yet…, but I have the wardrobe for it just in case the mood really strikes me.

What was that phrase again ? …  bat humdrum…, ball hummer…, Oh yeah, bah handball…, or something like that!

Merry Easter and….., ah, just forget it !!!!!

~ Calling Card ~   1 comment

The eyes, and the smile

Only serve to beguile

Passed through my thoughts

But couldn’t stay

 Left a calling card

One summer day

After returning from the trip I was looking for some old documents in a storage

box and came across some very old b/w pictures.  This was among them.  I’d thought

it was lost forever.  Memories………… 🙂

Trying to think of something witty…, or intelligent to write about tonight but, it seems, the muse has deserted me.  She’s been gone for quite some time now, as is evident from my lack of any new posts of any consequence at all.  It’s been a busy Spring and beginning of Summer, but that’s really not a good excuse…, or reason.  I just haven’t had the ambition to sit down and compose anything.  Started a couple of watercolors but they’re sitting on a table in the sunroom…, unfinished.

Seem to have come down with some type of malaise that keeps me in a rut of doing things that I have t0 do and avoiding things that I normally want to do.

Oh, well, real summertime is upon us and the warmth and sunshine will soon be driving me off to an old fishing hole, or maybe a museum…., or just maybe a spot in the shade with a good book…….., maybe !!!  Right now, writing just seems to much work.

Good Night Everybody !

To preclude any questions…..

Yes !  I did fall off the face of the earth for a while…,

at least it felt that way.  I don’t think I’ve had a more

busy Spring, and now the start of what appears to be

an even busier Summer.  Won’t go into the lurid details

but, suffice to say, I haven’t had much time for the things

I enjoy doing.

Ya know, falling off the face of the earth isn’t bad, It’s the

nowheresville landing at the end of the fall that’s painful !!!

I think I may be approaching full recovery mode now,

unless someone else gets sick, some unforeseen event

happens to the house, or ………

June promises to be another wild time it seems.

Will have my brother-in-law with a friend here

for a week for a sports camp at Notre Dame, and

when they leave, grandkids will be here for a week

of Grandparents Camp while their parents are off

enjoying themselves.  Then, maybe, a period of peace

and quiet before the annual pilgrimage to New Jersey

to invade the homes of In-Laws and friends for a short

while.  Oh, my, I forgot, another trip to the east coast

for my spouse’s 55th HS reunion.  It never ends !!!!!

So, from the bottom of the pit where I fell, wishes for happiness to all

and a very big apology for being so out of touch for so long.  🙂

The Autumn leaves drift by my window

(yes, they’re getting that deep out there)

I hear the chilly autumn wind blow

And feel the dampness in the air

So sad to see summer’s warmth go

Carefree days beneath the sun

Autumns leaves, falling, falling, falling

Lay like a blanket on the ground

In the distance I hear the calling

A soft, but chilling, bitter sound

As the Snow Queen rallies her forces

To commence another round

Of Winter

~~ Introduction to Autumn   1 comment

summer, that warm, sweet girl

who seduced us and stole our heart

with playful joy and laughter at start

is now fading, gone in a  whirl

clouds and rain now hide her sun

a chill in the air – Autumn’s begun

autumn rain beats upon the windowpane

steel gray clouds scud across the sky

puddles like tiny lakes form in the lane

summer has quietly retreated, fall chill is nigh

leaves change color, then fall and fly

the warm days gone in a sigh…
