Veranda - Buena Vista - Biloxi

Sweet Dreams

Sleep doesn’t come as I close my eyes

I still see the moonlit starry skies

And hear the faint melody of the band inside

As we dance on the beautiful balcony outside

Another slow waltz, as we glide ‘cross the floor

And quietly slip away through the veranda’s back door

Was not in our mind to spend the night at a dance

When under the moonlight we dreamed of romance.

~~ Musings at Midnight…..   4 comments

Just a soft summer night

near the end of July

Stars are out bright

and the moon is high…

Nightsong drifts in peacefully

with its soft gentle melody

bringing its gift of dreams…

In the softness of night time, let your heart drift to the magical world of your dreams

and rest there til you are wakened in the warm light of a new dawn…..

Good night…

Darkness, once again, brings its sweet peace to the night…

May your dreams be of silver bells and golden rings

Of the sun, and flowers, and such happy things…

Good night…

A kiss, a sigh, and a heart takes flight

Reaching for the moon that lights the night

Finding the stars in the soft velvet skies

Reflected in her beautiful eyes…

Good Night Everybody !

~~~ Tonight~~~   2 comments
Tonight I am far away.
I am in another time and space, holding a beautiful young girl in my arms and dancing to
the melody of a soft, slow waltz.  She is smiling sweetly.  No words are spoken.  None need
be as our hearts are so entwined that each knows instinctively what the other is thinking.
There are at least a hundred other people at the dance but we neither see nor hear them as
we are lost in an intimately private world of our own.
His:  I can see the promise of a million tomorrows in the softness of her beautiful blue eyes…
Hers:  His caring and strength are the rock I can cling to for a million tomorrows…
His:  There is no one on this earth as sweet, wonderful, and beautiful as she.  How do I deserve to be in the arms of such an angel…
Hers  Its his reality that makes him the beautiful man that I want to hold forever.  Does he know how much I love him?…
His:  In my wildest dreams I never dreamed I would ever find someone like her.  Her love is so intense and real I can feel it surround me…
Veranda - Buena Vista - Biloxi
The music in the Buena Vista ballroom died and the band packed up and was leaving.  We danced out onto the veranda to the music that kept playing in our hearts that night.  Til then, neither had voiced the words “I love you”, but we’d heard them a thousand times in each other’s eyes.
I’ve returned from that “other” place now…, that place of soft waltzes, blue eyes, tender warmth, and am living, once again, in a place where these exist only in beautiful memories of softer times in a gentler world.
Good Night Everybody
It’s a quiet winter evening.  He added a couple of logs to the sputtering embers in the fireplace and returned to the sofa.  He closes his eyes and listens…..
Her:  The shadows of a song play softly in my heart, and in the sunset that is in my soul.  It sings in the bright golden dreams and in my mind  gently whispers you name.
Him: What are your dreams of gold…, and what is the song that sings in your heart?  Please tell me.
Her:  The dream is our love, lasting forever and ever.  The song is the untiring melody of that love, playing over and over and over.  The melody is unending and beautiful, sounding fresh, and wonderfully new each time I hear it.
Him:  Sweet darlin’ girl, my heart rises to touch your soul, reaching to find and hold that dream that is ours and know the gentle peace of your love…
The fire dies and the house grows cold.  He sits alone now, thinking of all of the joy, the happiness, and the dreams of love they shared.  He talks to himself…, to no one in the house. Time was too short my love…, a hundred years, a thousand, would have been too short.  The gold has turned to silver, turned to dust”.  He closes his eyes, head settles on his chest, and he dreams.
Her: I’m here with you, sweetness, as I promised I would always be, in your heart and in your soul.
Him:  I feel your touch in the night when I sleep.  I hear your song of love each morning when I wake.  It is your light that keeps me moving forward to finish living the plans that we made.
Her:  Darling, take my hand.  It’s time to come home.  This dream is ended and it’s time to continue our journey.
He rose from the tired body that was his and took her into his arms.  They kissed, then turned and drifted into the ethereal air.
Friends found it the next day, the worn, tired body of an old man, smiling…..
Could I ?   4 comments
The familiar strains of a melody
Drift lazily ‘round the room
Taking me off to the dream I see
And filling my mind like perfume
Romantic turns as we glide past the door
Eyes locked in each other’s
Feet ne’er touch the floor
A smile, sweet caress
Then a soft, gentle kiss
Open a door to love’s tender bliss
….Could I have this dance ?
A Quiet Summer Evening   9 comments
Thin, filmy clouds over the water portended another fiery, beautiful sunset.  It was late afternoon and the heat of a sultry day was relenting to the cool sea breeze. He relaxed in a chair on the back porch.  It had been a long day and he was really tired.  He closed his eyes and listened to the melody of the mockingbird in the trees and after a moment dozed.  He woke to the caress of soft, cool fingers along his temples, progressing to his neck and shoulders with a gentle massage.
“Tired, darlin’?”
“Too tired to go for a short ride with me?”
“Never that tired.”
They strolled to the barn that served as a stable for the stallion and two mares, pulled down their tack and saddled and bridled the horses, the stallion for him and the dunn mare for her.  Smiling, she rode over to the porch, picked up a bag, and tied it to the back of her saddle.  The sun was slowly descending to the horizon when they rode casually across the cotton fields and across the little road that led to a creek in the woods, a favorite place to retreat from the rest of the world, stopping to dismount in a little clearing along the stream.
He untied the bag from her saddle and followed her lead to a spot next to a log across the creek.  She spread a blanket and opened the bag as he went back to hobble the horses.
“Starved, sweetness.  What do we have for tonight’s meal?”
“Well, let’s see…, fried chicken, potato salad, sliced tomato…, and some peaches for desert.  Will that be enough for my hungry man?”
“It’s at least a pretty good start…”  “You been busy planning the wedding as nd all?  Pops sounds like he wants us to be invitin’ about half of the state.”
“Yeah, I’ve been doing some plannin’.  What do you think about Saturday night, right here, with just us, a minister, and a couple witnesses?”
“Saturday night…, as in this Saturday night???  Are you serious, or just pullin’ my leg, girl?”
“Serious as that sunset right over there.  What do ya think?  Really, sweetheart, I don’t want to have that kind of huge, formal ceremony.  It’s just too much and neither of us would know half of the people.  I just want to share that moment with you, not the whole world.  Can you understand?”
“Yeah, I can understand.  I really haven’t been looking forward to this idea of a huge ceremony either.  You know me…, I’m a pretty quiet and simple kind of person and l’d like a quiet, simple ceremony too.”
“Good, then, Saturday about 6:30 right here, ok?  I’ve already talked to Ed and Barb and they’ll be our witnesses.”
“Am I the only person who doesn’t know what’s goin’ on?  What you gonna do if I say no?”
“Well, I guess I’d just have to convince you to say yes…., it’s ok, isn’t it?  You’re not angry, are you?  I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to spring this on you like this, honey.  Please say it’s ok.”
He pulled her into his arms, smiling, “Have I ever been angry with you, darlin’ girl…, and have I ever been able to refuse you anything you wanted?”
“No…, you spoil me worse than Pops does…, and you don’t need to.  I just love you so much, sweet darlin’ man.  Does this mean it’s ok…Saturday?”
Saturday night came, and at 6:30, in the light of a glorious sunset, four best friends and a minister met at the log along the gurgling creek in the woods next to the little road.  After the brief, but romantic little ceremony, bride and groom retired to the boat on the back bay to privately celebrate the close of a very happy day, and the beginning of a beautiful future.
Later, in the early morning as they lay in each other’s arms she turned to him….
“Do you remember when we talked about children, and how many, and having a family, darlin’?”
“Sure, I think I said we should have about six kids, three boys and three girls, and then we’d decide how many more…”, he said with a  smile, “and we should start right away.”
“Well, sugar, I think we’ve already started.  I think we’re goin’ to have a baby…, I just found out last week.  I know you wanted to wait a bit, but…, I’m sorry sweety”
He pulled her closer to him with a smile,”Don’t you apologize, darlin’, not for this ever.  A baby…, you’re goin’ to be a mommy and I’ll be a daddy !  Wow !  You’re ok, aren’t you?  Are you happy about it?  I sure am.  I love you more than ever.”
With happy little tears rolling down her cheeks, she kissed him, smiling,” Happier than I could ever tell you, especially knowing you’re happy too.”
Nestled in each others arms, they slept past the dawn of the new day, rising to a brilliant sun reflecting off the mirrorlike calm bay.  It was going to be a beautiful day, appropriate to the beginning of their new life…, together, the three of them.
As Long as I May Live   12 comments
Come softly to me
On the moonbeams,
And in the stardust
That light the evening
Touch my heart
With the radiance of your smile
Light my world
With the diamond glow of your eyes
Enrapture me with the tender caress
Of your hand against my cheek
Regale me softly
With the melody of your whispers
Share with me
The warmth of you in my arms
Enslave me
With the wonder of your charms
Let me feel the magic
Of your breath upon my skin
Open your heart, my love
And let me come in.
I pledge to you
All that’s mine to give
A loving heart
For as long as I may live.
