52 years ago, this weekend was when we met.  No event since, in my life, has matched the happiness and love that she brought into my life that night.  Probably none ever will.  It all started that evening with a question…  “Hey G.I., y’all mind if I walk with you?”

A bit of hair, tied with string…

Silver ring she used to wear…

Scratched and fading photograph…

Reminders…

The scent of jasmine…

Warm salt air…

Sea breeze whispers in the palms…

Reminders…

House is gone…, land is bare…

Nothing left at all to see

That they ever lived, were there

All that’s left…

What’s in the past…

Is in my heart, the love that lasts…

Reminders.

Peace to Y’all

Good Night Everybody

Sitting on the Back Porch   3 comments

Sitting out on the back porch, enjoying the cool of the evening as I watch the moon sneaking up over the horizon.  Stars are peeking out in the sky, winking at me as I watch them make their appearance, one-by -one.  It’s springtime but it feels like a soft summer evening after an especially warm day.  It’s too early for the chorale of the crickets, but not for the mosquitos or no-see-ums.  As it deepens, the night is crystal clear and the trees cast long shadows in the bright light of a full moon.  It’s quiet…, and peaceful, and I let my tired spirit bathe itself in the beauty and comfort of the evening.

Good night everybody.

The eve was getting late

I glanced across the floor

And though I had no date

This night I wanted more

Was there by myself

A lad without a care

She was sitting on the shelf

Did I, should I dare

I chanced the chance

And as the music played so fair

We danced the dance

As though we waltzed on air

And when the party came to end

As they closed and locked the door

Across the meadow and around the bend

We waltzed and danced some more

…….and as all good stories should always end…, they lived happily ever after.

Graduation Time   3 comments

**************************************************

Will be gone for a few days. Oldest granddaughter is graduation college on Saturday. She is such a source of pride. After a rather rough childhood, she’s become an educated, confident, and not to mention, a very beautiful young woman. I just love her.
Will be back next week sometime with stories to tell. Til then…….

~~ 50-years………   3 comments

*******************

After being married for 50 years, he took a careful look at his wife one day and said, “Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV. But hey I got to sleep every night with a hot 23-year-old girl. “

Now … I have a $750,000 home, a $65,000 car, a nice big bed and a large screen TV, but I’m sleeping with a 73-year-old woman. So I said to my wife “it seems to me that you’re not holding up your side of things.”

His wife is a very reasonable woman. She told him to go out and find a hot 23-year-old girl and she would make sure that he would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.

Aren’t older women great?

They really know how to put life into perspective.
