Christmas Spirit   7 comments

It’s snowy out, and cold.  All the decorations are up on houses in the neighborhoods and on the stores downtown and at the mall.  Once again the holidays are upon us and it’s time to celebrate…., but, somehow this year I just can’t get into the spirit of it all.  Who am I to celebrate when we have soldiers, sailors, and marines all over the world, some still in dangerous places, who won’t get to celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones.  It doesn’t seem such a happy time when the news is filled with revolt, genocide, poverty, and hunger…, earthquakes, typhoons, and floods.  True, there are things to celebrate, but do we really celebrate the cause for the season, or do we celebrate the greedy commercializtion that has permeated contemporary society.

When I look around and listen, the concern is more about what to buy for gifts, and how much to spend on this one or that one, and not the idea of just being together to enjoy gatherings with family and friends.  Isn’t the love and camaraderie of our relationships with each other what we should be celebrating ?
Maybe I’m just in a bad mood tonight but after watching the evening news this is what keeps running through my mind.  OK, I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Bah, Humbug !!!

Good Night Everybody

  1. Its true Paul, the focus is all wrong. It bothers me so that all the lights and trees come up before we can even celebrate thanksgiving. Its not Bah Humbug – its disappointment in what we have allowed to become of a once very beautiful tradition called Christmas… now it’s my turn to be done.

  2. Stay clear of the Mall Paul!
Do something that brings you joy. Find a twinkling star and smile. Hugs.

    • Emm, I avoid malls like the plague…, even when it’s not the Christmas season !!! There’s always a star and a smile. This was just a bad night.
Thanks ‘n’ hugs back to you.

  3. Look to the sky on a clear night and see the lights. That is Christmas, the hope that there will be peace and calm, maybe after 2014 years we’ll finally get it right. Merry Christmas and wishing you peace and joy.

  4. This is why I don’t watch the news anymore. I am much more content. You will find a true way to celebrate consistent with you own self and soul. Cheers to Paul & Merry Christimas in the true spirit of the holidays~
